This course provides students with strategies and skills for group work with a variety of clients. Explores leadership styles and skills, group formation and stages, and the ethics of working with groups. Will address knowledge needed to develop, run, and evaluate groups for a variety of human service topics, including substance abuse. This course will present an overview of The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Criteria and the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) criteria related to addiction and substance use. Students will gain familiarity with the use of the ASAM Criteria to enhance the use of multidimensional assessments to develop patient-centered service plans.
